It Worked For Me!

"I used hypnobirthing to stay comfortable during my labor and delivery. It was wonderful! I had my first baby in less than 10 hours, and was comfortable through it all! I highly recommend it!" - Jen Nickerson of Yarmouth, MA

"My toddler loves the bathroom, especially when he can pull off all the toilet paper into a giant fluffy mound onto the floor. I put a rubber band around the roll. It's inexpensive and works very well." - Melanie Gold of PA

"Try giving your teething baby frozen food ... cut up fruit (pears, bananas, strawberries, apples, etc.) or give whole frozen blueberries ... the cold feels good and they can feed themselves. My son even likes frozen spinach." - Tara Jaeger of NJ

"Instead of paying the big bucks for all of the different kinds of diaper rash treatments, use Vaseline. It works just as well and is so much cheaper!" - Crystal Stump of Montesano, WA

"Some advice for bottle feeding moms who have little ones who still feed during the night. We have a two story house and those trips up and down the stairs to get and warm up bottles all during the night was for the birds! It took me longer because I had a c-section and so the crying went on longer. My husband and I set up a system where before going to bed each night we took up a small cooler with a few ice packs in it along with the number of bottles we needed. We also took up the bottle warmer. What a difference! She got to eat faster (which also meant that she wouldn't wake up completely, so she would fall right back to sleep) and I wasn't tripping down the stairs. Mommy was happy and so was baby." - Laura Jenkins of Durham, NC

"We have always offered our son healthy snacks. He's two now, and when he's hungry, we ask him if he would like grapes, a banana, peaches or other fruit we have on hand. He is so used to snacking on fruit, that he actually prefers it over other snacks. He'll choose fruit over cookies or chips every time." - Kristen of West Barnstable, MA

"I would use small pieces of colored wrapping paper that I cut into different shapes to use as targets for the potty. Blake was encouraged to hit the targets and when he finished, all we had to do was flush the tissue!" - Jill Martin of Houston, TX

"Right now we're going through the teething process with Amelia. It's really been hard on her and hard on us not having our extremley happy baby. We have found something that really helps to make her feel better. (the Orajal seems to wear off too fast) We mash up a popsicle and put it in a baggy then while holding it, she chews on it. She loves it and is so happy. It numbs her mouth and makes her feel so much better." - Kerrie McDermott of Barnesboro, PA

"When baby is at an age where s/he will be rolling over soon, you can encourage this behaviour by placing a large towel (such as a beach towel or bath sheet) on the floor and placing baby in the center. Then you can grab up one end of the towel and slowly and gently pull it upward. This will roll baby over gently. Then grab up the opposite end and repeat to turn baby back over. This gets baby used to the rolling motion and may encourage him/her to do it on his/her own." - Holly Michels of Santa Barbara, CA

"Read at least one story a day, and sing to your little one often. Even if you put in a full day of work outside of the home, you will treasure this few extra minutes per day for a lifetime." - Jennifer Ellis of Glendale, AZ

"When buying clothes for your newborn & infant, keep comfort & ease at the top of your priorities! For newborns, try to avoid outfits that button up the back, especially - it's hard enough dressing them without having to flip them over. Watch out for those cute little Peter Pan collars, also. Chances are you'll spend most of your time flipping them back down out of baby's face." - Margie Roesch of Edwards, CA

"When i wanted to potty train my 2 year old, we instituted a "reward" system for going potty in his special chair. Since stickers were meaningless to him, we got a pound and a half of M&M's. He would get 3 for peeing in the pot, and 5 for a movement. He was trained in under a week; and once the candy was gone, he was ok with that too, because he was 'all growed up.'" - 'Liz Miller of West Barnstable, MA
